I love them! A few years back I got into “Bare foot” walking, with bare feet, but was limited to fields and meadows stopping to take my shoes off and put them back on afterwards. I walk my collie dog lots and I wanted something more practical that I could walk the dog in and still be “Bare foot”. Plus I’m vegan so these were perfect “Vegan barefoot lightweight walking boots” I’ve not been disappointed so far.
Sizing wise I got a tape measure out and measured my foot from apex of heel to tip of big toe and then diagonal from outer ball of big toe to foot behind little toe, as the sizing diagram shows. Then I went off their sizing charts and the closest bigger size was about 6 mm longer than my foot. They fit a treat. Now I do have “Italian” feet which are slightly narrower than UK feet so I’ve tightened the laces a fair bit to narrow them down. But for a typical wider foot there’s loads of variation in width possible just by slacking off the laces. It looks like they’re designed to give you a lot of choice/flexibility in how tight or lose you wear them.
I’ve worn them all day barefoot (no socks) for a few days but being England it’s now 10 degrees cooler today so I’ve worn them with thick outdoor socks now. That ability to slacken off the laces has worked a treat accommodating the socks. They do come with a thin insole which I took out on day 1 and the inner lining of the shoe beneath is free from stitching so you can wear them without the insole without any rubbing.
So far 10/10. The bonus is that they’re vegan, the build quality seems great and the styling on these is nice too. Plus they’re made of out coffee?! – no they don’t smell like an espresso 😉 But even after a day or two bare foot they don’t smell bad either.
OK so I’m a fan and based on what I’ve experienced I’m happy to recommend these. Plus they’re from Yorkshire where they do things ‘proper’.

I LOVE MY KIDEPOS! Nothing else in my closet works as well for hiking in the dusty heat and feel so agile on boulders. Plus, they are made of freaking coffee! Unreal. Freet does it again.

I’ve long been after some walking footwear that I can wear without socks so I was thrilled to come across these. I don’t like socks, the only time I wear them, even in winter, is with my walking boots but I wear boots a great deal! The Kidepo are wonderfully comfortable without socks; I haven’t tried them with. I bought a size less than my Mudees to accommodate my socklessness and the fit is perfect. I would say they are the most comfortable footwear I have every put on my feet. However …… they get very wet very easily and take ages to dry. I know – they are not meant to be waterproof but, in summer, I love going out early doors. This is not really possible with the Kidepo as after two minutes on dewy grass, they are wet through. When they are wet, without socks, they do rub and chafe a bit. For me, they are only wearable when I can guarantee that they won’t get wet which does limit their use a bit. Wearing them in dry conditions though is a joy, they are light, breathable and flexible. I love that they are made from coffee grounds and not from plastic. If you walk/live in dry conditions, I would highly recommend these.

These are my favourite outdoor footwear! I bought them as shoes that would be suitable for hiking as well as general use. They are so incredibly comfortable! And I love the fact they they are made from recycled coffee grounds, rather than conventional plastics. I have the Kidepo in size 44, which fit perfectly. This is also my normal shoe size (which I think is unusual, since most people apparently tend to go one size up in Freet). Measuring my feet in accordance with the Freet instructions would indicate a slightly smaller shoe size, but in reality that would be too small.
They are not waterproof but I have found in the past that conventional shoes that claim to be waterproof are not – and even those which are decline over time. So I just wear waterproof socks in wet conditions. Which also has the benefit that in summer the shoes are more breathable than “waterproof” ones, so the Kidepo are good for year-round use.
I haven’t tried them on very long walks yet. If I was doing a lot of walking on very rough terrain, or over long distances, I might consider getting additional padding / protection e.g. Rock Plate and 6mm Orthlite (but that might make the shoes fit less well).

Super happy for the purchase. Lovely breathable, comfortable and stylish.
Used for a month long hike/travel as my only pair of shoes. They did amazing but ended up a little more worn out than I expected. So not apocalypse proof, but still awesome. I still use them for day hikes and are very happy.
4 stars out 5.

Really enjoying these shoes! They are really well made and the groundfeel in them is perfect – I can feel every detail, but they’re not uncomfortable to wear on road/pavement. Very comfortable on long walks in different terrains and the grip is good as well.
I have very wide, but short feet, and these shoes have the best width that I’ve come across yet in barefoot shoes. I found that with the insoles in they were slightly too snug, but without it perfect. My feet have plenty of room and I have no pain in my feet, which I do with normal shoes. The sizing is slightly odd – I’m normally a 38, a 39 in barefoot shoes in other brands, but in these I have a forty. But as long as you properly read the sizing chart you’re fine. Thoroughly pleased, and am looking forward to wearing them more.
