Sizing Small (i)

This shoe fits small: consider a larger size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits small to size; if you sometimes have to go up a size, it is more likely that you may need to go up a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

The more I wear them the more comfortable they get.

The Bootee M was the first pair of barefoot footwear I have had and my first order from Freet. I have since bought the Nimbus and Connect 3 and put in an order for the Esk today. Having only worn these twice since ordering them, I had to wait and wear them more before I could give a review. As it has dropped back into Winter, I have donned these boots the last three days. The more I wear them the more comfortable they get. They are certainly snug and that took a bit of getting use to, but now I like this snug fit. The are very comfortable. I like the thicker and softer ankle collar, which wraps round the ankle, giving that extra warmth and protection from the ice cold wind. The tongue, same as with my Connect 3, stays in place once laced up and is lovely and soft on the foot, as well as keeping any cold that might other wise get in, out, due to the tongue being sewn right up. This also keeps out any debris, making the boot even more cosy and increasing the snugness felt when wearing them. My feet and toes keep a comfortable, natural warmth. When it was hotter, my feet did not overheat in these. It is really cold and wet today and without socks (which I hate) my feet were remained at just the right warmth. So far so good. However, were I to buy another pair of these, I would go another size up, making it two sizes up. The reason is due to the width. I would like in a snugger fit a bit more width. Perhaps Freet could consider adding a few more mms with a more snug fitting shoe. Another suggestion: Perhaps Freet could consider, as with another barefoot brand, adding a choice of width with some of its shoes and boots. This along with some brighter colours, such as red and yellow. That aside, this boot is now a lovely fit in which the comfort improves with wear. I haven't worn them yet on the trail, but they certainly held well on some muddy areas and wet ground today. So these Bootee's, along with my Connect 3 ( super comfortable, with a very good grip, even on wet grass when on an incline) and my Nimbus are just perfect and a gift to my feet.

They couldn't be more perfect if I had sent you my feet in the post

Dear Freet People, I received my Bootee Ms last week - the second purchase I have made from Freet. They are going to be my midway between stout, heavy leather boots and my summer Pace shoes. They couldn't be more perfect if I had sent you my feet in the post. Small feet, high arch, nearly as wide as they are long - REALLY difficult to fit. On the recommendation of your website, I did go up a size to a UK5. They are probably more roomy at the toe than I would normally choose, but thicker socks are always an option. Worth every penny to feel comfort in every step from the moment you put them on. Best wishes, Philippa Roberts

I love my bootees! These are my first pair of barefoot shoes and I absolutely love them. I've used them for a few hikes in the Lakes and locally as well as my regular dog walks through muddy woodland and over the fields. They have been so comfy from the get-go and I can honestly say that my feet have never been as comfortable when walking as they are in my bootees. No more little toes being nipped and ripped....and my toe ring doesn't rub!
Even when they've been wet after splashing through the beck they remain comfortable with no rubbing. I'm very happy with them on that front and don't feel I need to pull on uncomfortable wellies anymore when it's raining.
A wee bit slippery in mud but no more than anything else really and I'm finding the barefoot-ness does give me more confidence and foot-feel with toe grip.
And as a small footed in-between a 37 and 38, the 38s have been perfect. I've yet to really test them on a longer hike with steep descents - but these days my walks are usually moderate anyway, so I'm happy. I had lovely help by email when trying to decide which size to get.
My only wee whinge is that the mid- tongue tab that holds the laces in place came away on one shoe after just 3 weeks or so...but really it's such a minor thing I couldn't raise the energy to do anything about it and it makes no difference to the wearability.
I've just ordered an on sale pair of the talus 2s to see how I like wearing freets as more of an everyday pump when I don't want to put my ancient teva sandals on!
The added bonus for me is that you are a local company at least in terms of business-base - although part of me wishes I could buy this shoe without a made in China tab...
Thank you for a great product and good customer service.

Coming from 'other' barefoot walking shoes, these are a delight. Comfy, flexible, light, nice water resistance. I really like the amount of ankle support in these too. I bought the Mudee at the same time, thinking I would only keep one or the other, but they are so good I kept both. The Mudee for when it's properly raining, cold (U.K.) weather or wet (puddles) ground, these for damp weather or when the temperature creeps up a bit in spring. Freet are my new favourite walking shoes for sure.

Wow! This is a remarkable shoe/boot for hiking. I have worn moccasins, Xeros and Vivobarefoot shoes for years and have been looking for a hiking boot both for day hikes and backpacking and I think I found it! I can't say enough about the amount of "feel" and flexibility in the boot, perfect for hiking. Love the ankle protection without prohibiting the ankle to move naturally, very clever! The boot just invites me to stride properly; no heel striking, weight forward with knee and ankle bend. Nice construction and wonderful grip on the sole on rocks and wet terrain, also nice in amount of water shedding but also the boot is warm but not hot (breathes). Think it will work well in Summer. Can't say enough, great boot, will not be my last Freet Purchase. I followed the recommendation of "sizing up" and that worked well with nice toe space and no toe jamming going down hill with weight. (wear a 41 on my Vivo and ordered a 42 for the Freet and fits nice, I like room with my toes :) Enjoy!!
