Sizing True (i)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Lightweight & Flexible

The Mudee L is very lightweight and flexible for a leather hiking boot. Only a little break in was needed for them to feel comfortable. I selected boot size per the chart and boot length was true to my size. Toe box is very roomy. For my low volume foot, there is a bit of extra room at midfoot and heel. My experience with hiking boots is that they are sometimes a bit oversized to allow thicker hiking socks. I am presently wearing thin hiking socks and may try thicker socks. The extra room is not too excessive but I like a tight midfoot fit. I wear the boots for walking on pavement, grass, improved trails and everyday wear but have not yet used for rough terrains. Overall, I enjoy wearing the boots and they have met my expectations.

Really nicely made but big volume

I'm usually a 10 or 10.5 depending on brand, Ive used zero drop running shoes and am comfortable in them, as well as regular hiking boots. Even with thicker socks I find the volume in these too big, and theres not enough adjustment with laces to make up for it meaning theres more movement inside the boot. This isnt an issue on the flat, but on steeper terrain it is not ideal.
I have ordered the ortholite insole which is thicker to hopefully take up some of the extra space.

Quite comfortable even when for long period of time (up to 20h straight). I used them mainly in the snow and to work and got the job done. Unfortunately I wasn't used anymore to high shoes (over the ankle) and the clutch/friction with the leg/skin created some problems (had a small irritation). Overall I'm really happy of the purchase and being my first barefoot shoes I have, I am more than satisfied.

Comfy and very good quality

I´ve only used them for five days in the mountains, and I´m pretty happy: they are purely barefoot but very comfortable, easy to clean, and grippy in most terrains. It's a surprisingly good discovery. I will probably try different models in the upcoming months.

Excellent Barefoot Hiking boots!

I have never had a barefoot hiking boot before and so I was a little nervous about buying my first pair online. No need! I have tested them out now on extremely rocky terrain, mud, cold and wet conditions and I couldn't be happier! The only time I slipped was on icy tarmac but that's not what I bought them for so it served as a good reminder to stay wild! They are warm, durable and incredibly comfortable. It was a big investment for me and so I am hoping they will last me for many seasons. HIGHLY recommended!
