Running in Freet

Global Recycling Day

This Global Recycling Day, find out more about how Freet are recycling plastic bottles and coffee grinds to make your shoes!

BottleYarn

Coffee Yarn

Many of our products are made from BottleYarn, ranging from Arken and Howgill, to Feldom, Swale, Keld, and more. They are made using recycled post consumer plastic bottles. We create pellets from which we extrude a filament for weaving our yarn. BottleYarn is tough, breathable and comfortable to wear. Another great performance sports and everyday material.

CoffeeYarn

Bottle Yarn

Some of our products, such as Pace and Tanga, are made using Coffee Yarn. This is made using recycled coffee grounds which are milled into nanometer size powder. This is then used to create a polyester-like spinning fluid before processing into a flyknit thread. The material is naturally antibacterial, quick drying and durable. A superb comfortable high-performance sports and everyday material.

We are working to do even better…

We continue to search for new ways to make our shoes as sustainable as possible. By the end of the year, 90% of our synthetic shoes will be made from recycled materials. We already have uppers made from recycled coffee grinds and recycled bottles, as outlined above, and throughout this year we will bring in shoes made from recycled leather. As well as the uppers, we are looking at all other elements of the shoes, for example recycled laces. We have been working with the Leather Working Group, so now all leather used from 2024 will be Gold Certificated and free of PFCs.
