Sizing True (ii)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

It is vital that you allow at least 5mm extra at the front of the shoe. For example; your foot is 248mm long. You will likely need size EU40 to allow enough free space at the end of your shoe.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Better than I hoped.

Not worn yet- waiting for nikwax- but they look great and are extremely comfortable. My best Freets yet..

Good boot, but too sloped

I like how lightweight and water resistant this boot is. It performed very well hiking in bogs and crossing streams in Scotland. The sole is grippy and there's lots of room for high volume feet and/or feet with a wide mid foot.
I'd love to give them 5 stars, but the fit of the newer soles like the hill grip sole is just not as good as the one of the older sole types. The slope has become way more aggressive, which is such a pity for us people with plateau shaped toes. My pinky toes kinda hate these boots because of the slope, even though I sized up to give them more room.
Freet is one of the very few brands making good outdoor shoes for wide feet, and I'm sad I can't rely on them anymore. It would be so awesome if you released an extra wide line, or even just a more square sole with more space for long pinky toes.

Bootee 2

This is my first pair of Freet shoes I have owned. I must say, so far I’m very impressed with the build quality and fit. I used them for work (law enforcement) and I’m on my feet all day. When my shift is over my feet are not tired or sore. I have worn many minimalist shoes over the years. Some have been better than others. However, these fit perfect right out of the box with no break in period needed. The fit was true to size. Time will tell how they hold to wear and tear but so far I’m happy with the purchase.

Bootee? Or Polyester Mudee?

I´m a Bootee fan from the first hour. And it´s a pitty you call this a new generation Bootee. Because apart from the Bottleyarn fabric and the low ancle cut, it has nothing to do anymore with the souplesse we expect from the Bootee (or barefoot shoe so to speak). The whole shoe and especially the sole is as stiff as it can be (cannot understand they tell the opposite in the explanation video). Because of the stiffness I loose grip as my feet cannot "grap" on uneven surfaces anymore and they become very slippery on wet surfaces (even with the thick lugs; as barefeet hiker we know this has little to do with it compared with the souplesse of a sole). I´m disappointed as a Bootee fan. New people that come from a classic hiking shoes will be fine not knowing what an actually barefoot hiking shoe as the original and 2nd generation Bootee can feel like. I guess we have been spoiled for the last 10 years with a too perfect hiking shoe.

Great shoes

delighted with boots once they arrived, but a false start as the wrong shoes were in the first box that were sent.
