Sizing True (ii)

This shoe fits true to size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits true to size; so order your normal size.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

It is vital that you allow at least 5mm extra at the front of the shoe. For example; your foot is 248mm long. You will likely need size EU40 to allow enough free space at the end of your shoe.

The lengths shown are the Insole lengths (the actual shoe length will be 2 or 3 mm longer).

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

A really great model

A really great model. Beautiful, super comfortable, warm. Sturdy while keeping the flexibility and ground contact of a barefoot shoe. Super grip on slippery or rocky trails. Beautiful leather. The model is rather high on the ankle, I had to wear them about 2 weeks to make the collar flexible, but now they almost feel like slippers.

Fantastic boots

This is a great barefoot hiking boot. It has several improvements over the Impala; it has proper metal eyelets for the laces all the way up rather than leather ones part of the way; it has those 'locking' hooks that fix the laces part way up to help you get things suitably tight; and the tongue is a bit 'free-er' and fits better (I found the tongue on the Impalas really uncomfortable to start with). The soles are really grippy, same as the Impala, with just the right balance of cushioning and barefoot feel over rough ground. I love them, I just wish they came in smooth leather rather than the nubuck-type, which I find harder to look after.

Sizing a bit small

Ordered my usual size of 39 but, on my first walk in them, my toes were touching the front edge of the boot. Tried lacing up tighter to keep my foot to the back of the boot, could still feel my toes touching the front but also had problems with them rubbing on my heels. Hoping this will improve as the leather softens, but I am concerned that I will not be able to wear my thicker winter hiking socks in these boots. Found the soles slippery on damp rocks too which didnt give me confidence over my usual terrain

Excellent to-date - a serious barefoot boot

So far so good. They've withstood the wet Scottish conditions experienced last week and during Storm Amy and my feet remained dry and comfortable. The sole is particularly important to me - so far I'm impressed but to date have not used them in anger on the mountains.
