Sizing Large (ii)

This shoe fits large: consider a smaller size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits large to size; if you sometimes have to go down a size, it is more likely that you may need to go down a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Great sandals

I bought these for my husband having enjoyed the freedom of Freet shoes myself. He loves them

Versatile shoes

These sandals are really comfortable, a bit like having gloves on your feet. They're easy to walk in, and indeed run, and generally have an agile feel.
Also good for recreational cycling. The soles cope well with MTB type pedals with pins with no apparent damage. While you can feel the pedals it never becomes uncomfortable.
I've used them for playing indoor cricket, which involves lots of sudden twisting and turning, where they feel stable and secure.
I bought my usual size, which are just slightly on the large side but it enables me to wear thicker socks if necessary, in this dry but sometimes cold spring. Easy to adjust to provide a snug fit with thinner socks.
I can wear them all day for many different activities without any discomfort.
My favourite Freet shoes are usually the ones I'm wearing but I think these really are my favourites.

A versatile, warm weather shoe

I got these last autumn and wore them a few times before it got colder. Now I'm wearing them a lot as we return to warmer weather.

They strike a great balance between feeling capable and protected, like a full shoe, and airy, like a sandal. I like this style of shoe for casual, warm weather wear. I also find they are acceptable for walking, light hiking, and running. I swapped in my 6mm insoles (from a well known minimal insole brand), which I use when running, and they did about as well as my regular, minimal running shoes. The main difference is they keep my feet slightly cooler.

Believe what people say about them being a roomy shoe. I need insoles to maintain a decent fit. I went with my normal EU size of 47, which they call US mens 12.5. In US sizes, I normally wear 13, but the 12.5 is plenty.

One little thing to watch, the tag on the inside of the tongue of one shoe developed a corner that peeled back and wore a slight abrasion the first time I ran. I fixed that with some appropriate glue (E6000).

Good but fairly wide fit

We have kept them but my son has fairly wide feet so we'll need to put an insole inside..next size down would be too short in length.

Disappointed

I'm a first time barefoot shoe buyer so I was quite hyped to receive these sandals and a pair of Tundra. Getting used to the Tundra, but the Zennor is too wide at the ankle. The velco adjustment seems to already be at it's max and only looks and feels weird if pulled tighter. The top pull adjuster seems too flexible and loose. Guess I should have read the other reviews first which recommend for wider feet.
