Sizing Large (ii)

This shoe fits large: consider a smaller size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits large to size; if you sometimes have to go down a size, it is more likely that you may need to go down a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.
Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Very comfortable and wide enough toe box

I really like how roomy the toe box is and how soft and light they are. However, I’m not a fan of the “half tongue” design, it creates a hole at the corner. I prefer the whole sock design like the Howgill. Also, would love to see more color options. I really want some colors besides black.(I replaced the laces with colorful elastic ones to add some colors).

incredibly comfy, but one small flaw for very wide feet

These are one of the most comfortable minimalist shoes I've tried, and actually fit my very wide, high volume feet. While the black color wouldn't be the greatest in sunny climates, they seem to be fairly breathable, and I'm guessing they'd be good up to about 75F. However, I decided to send them back because the tongue isn't quite wide enough for my feet, which leaves a small gap at the top of the laces. I live in a sandy environment and imagine sand would be pouring in through it. If they made the tongue even half an inch wider, this problem would be solved, and I doubt the extra fabric would be uncomfortable for people with narrower feet since it's so soft and flexible.

Got this as a replacement for my old Flex. Very satisfied with its roomy toebox and comfortable upper material. I wear it without socks.

Brilliant Design

I have basically worn these shoes all summer. My second pair of Freet shoes, I don't think I can go back to "normal" shoes now. I am a complete convert! I love how stable I feel when I am walking. My ankle used to give way sometimes, I have not had that in these barefoot shoes at all.I feel as if my whole style of walking is changing. My plantar fasciitus has also improved so much. Whether it is due to wearing barefoot shoes I can't say, but I am very relieved.
These shoes are incredibly light, keep my feet cool. On holiday, I wore them the whole time, even in the sea. They are so easy to pop in my backpack as they pack really flat.
The sole is sturdy , there's some foot slippage due to the soft design, when on uneven ground. I have the ortho insole to cushion my feet further. I went a size down, 38. I am in between 38 and 39. I think I could have even gone to a 37. But I love all of the wiggle room in the toe area.

These might be the absolute best for comfort and design

I've worn barefoot shoes across many brands - including Freet - for about 12 years and these might be the absolute best for comfort and design. The highly grippy and thick soles let me feel like a mountain goat on steep loose and rocky inclines, and the open mesh outers keep me comfortable in this 35-40C Italian weather. These are also the only shoes I can wear without socks and insoles for long periods, no doubt helped by the off-centre lace design and elastic close-fitting outers. The thicker sole versus their other trainer-like models makes city walking comfortable too. As you'd expect of the design, they get wet instantly in the rain, but during the winter months they'll switch to being my go-to indoor gym shoes. One thing to be aware of when you buy them is to go one size down versus other Freet models and potentially two sizes down versus "normal" shoes - they really benefit from a close fit.
