Sizing Small (ii)

This shoe fits small:consider a larger size

The best guide for sizing your new Freet shoes is to start with your usual shoe size. Think about whether you always take this size or whether you sometimes need to go smaller or larger.

Customer feedback is that this style fits small to size; if you sometimes have to go up a size, it is more likely that you may need to go up a size with this style.

Our shoes are originally produced in EU sizes. All UK sizes are the closest conversion so, if you know your EU size, you may want to consider using this.

Measuring Your Foot

Sometimes as a second check it is worth measuring your foot. Feet can be different sizes so its worth measuring both and taking the largest.

Standing next to a wall place a piece of paper against the wall. Place your foot on the paper with your heel just touching the wall.

Measuring Your Foot
  • The next stage is easier if you get someone else to help do it.
  • Take a pencil or pen and trace the outline of the foot on the paper.
  • Start at the heel.
  • Keep the pen at 90 degrees to the paper, so vertical, see diagram.
  • Don't draw under the foot.
Keep pencil verical
Taking a ruler measure the length of the outline in millimetres. This will be the exact size of the insole you will need. To ensure the fit is not tight add another 5.0 - 10.0 mm to the length. If you wear thick socks then add that thickness to the length.

Measuring your outline

If possible, please work from the EU sizes (the US and UK sizes are nearest conversions to these sizes so will not be as accurate). The lengths and widths are the dimensions of the insole in mm measured as per the picture below:

Excellent boots but why are the lugs hollow?

I walked Te Araroa in these (1300km across the south island of New Zealand). They were brand new on starting, very comfortable straight out of the box, grippy and excellent waterproofing.
The reason they get 3 stars not 5 is that the lugs are hollow. Once you start to wear down the tread this quickly results in holes in the soles of the shoe and soggy feet anytime you stand on a damp surface. I found this was the first part of the shoe to show signs of wear and I first noticed it at about 800km. The uppers lasted to about 1000km before starting to rip along the edges (photos taken on return home at 1300km).
I've recently found this is the case with my Calvers too (which also have the mountain grip), but wasn't a problem with the Ibex boots (hill grip) which I managed to wear smooth with no problems.
Is this something that could be addressed for the future? I feel it significantly reduces the life span of the shoes.

Nice quality as expected.

Fit was too small, returned for a refund.

Fabulous boots. So comfortable with excellent grip - I honestly feel so well connected with the ground I am walking on and the pain I usually feel in conventional walking boots, has gone. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable barefoot boots

These are light and comfy. I bought 6.5 which is half a size bigger than my normal size 6 and they fit perfectly. Have only done hour long walks but in wet and muddy conditions and so far very good

Love these!

These are my first Freet shoes and they are amazing. I needed to replace my barefoot hiking boots from another brand that are too low volume for my feet.

The toe box is nice and roomy and my toes can properly splay. The leather is super soft out of the box. The ankle is a tad stiff now but I’m sure the leather will soften as I hike more. If you are looking for a roomier, quality hiking boot, give this a try!
